Boy Scouts of America Declare Bankruptcy; Deadline To File Claims By November

REAL PEOPLE. REAL RESULTS.

Deadline to File a Claim Against Boy Scouts of America: November 16, 2020

As parents, all or most of us would feel pride knowing our child is or was a member of the Boy Scouts. Sadly, many young boys and teens have experienced sexual abuse over the last several years by a Boy Scout leader. Over thirty years ago, a former chief executive of the scouts was quoted as saying that sexual abuse has been an issue since the Boy Scouts began.

In February 2020, the Boy Scouts of America filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. One of the reasons cited for the filing was due to the number of lawsuits filed against the organization alleging sexual abuse. The bankruptcy was filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The court has set a deadline of November 16, 2020 by which all sexual abuse claims be filed against the Boy Scouts. Failure to file the claim by the deadline will likely prohibit you from ever filing a suit or claim against the Scouts.

Unfortunately, these leaders have taken advantage of their position. They should be role models but instead became predators. Most boys admire and respect their Scoutmaster and hold them in high esteem. If a boy or teen has been victimized by a scout leader, someone or organization must level the playing field. If you, a family member or a friend has been a victim of sexual abuse, please do not hesitate to call us at Flexer Law PLLC. Our phone number is (615) 805-6374 and we can confidentially discuss this matter with you.
